What is an Iced Wedding Cake?

An ‘iced’ wedding cake is a cake decorated using rolled fondant, also known as sugarpaste. This is the traditional type of icing you will probably have had on Birthday cakes growing up. Fondant provides a smooth finish with sharp edges and the decoration possibilities are honestly endless.

The Ordering Process

Initial design & consultation

First things first please use the contact form at the bottom of this page to let me know the details of your wedding so I can confirm my availability. I take bookings up to 18 months in advance for wedding cakes. Next we will discuss all of your ideas for your wedding over email, online video chat or in person at a consultation & tasting held at my home studio. Once I have learned all about your wedding and your ideas I will send you a quote. To proceed with your booking I require a £100.00 non refundable deposit which will secure your date. After you have paid your deposit I will create a detailed sketch so that we can make sure we both have the same vision for how the final cake will look.

As your wedding day draws closer

The remaining balance is due 28 days before your wedding date. I will catch up with you about a month before your wedding to check if any last minute changes need to be made, perhaps you want to adjust the flavours or your guest list numbers have changed. This will be the last time to make changes to your order. I will also use this time to gather all the essential contact details to liaise with your venue and other suppliers. If you’ve ordered a Rich Fruit Cake this will be created 6 weeks in advance to allow time for it to mature. Non perishable decorations such as handcrafted sugar flowers will be made during this time.

The week of your wedding

All sponges will be baked the week of your wedding to ensure freshness. Your cake will be iced, stacked and decorated. On the day I will deliver and set up the cake at the venue myself, often adding finishing touches on site at the venue. You can relax and get ready knowing your cake is taken care of and be wowed when you walk into your reception and see it for the first time!

Flavours and portions for wedding cakes

It is so important to me that all my cakes taste as delicious as they look! Every cake is baked to order using the highest quality ingredients including real butter and free range eggs, I try to use British and free range ingredients wherever I can.

All of my wedding cakes are approximately 4” tall and contain 3 layers of sponge and 2 layers of filling. Extra deep tiers are approximately 6” tall and contain 4 layers of sponge with 3 layers of filling. View my Portion Guide for more information.

I use Italian Meringue Buttercream as the filling in my cakes which is silky, smooth and not too sweet. It works beautifully paired with jams and conserves. Iced wedding cakes are coated with a layer of white or milk chocolate ganache before being iced in smooth fondant. Rich Fruit Cakes are covered with a layer of marzipan underneath the fondant.

Allergies & Dietary Requirements:

I will try to accommodate allergies & dietary requirements where possible. Wheat, gluten, dairy, soya and nut products are all used in my kitchen so I cannot guarantee against traces. Please let me know of any special dietary requirements for your cake and I will do my best to cater for your needs.

Each of my iced wedding cakes is bespoke and tailored to you meaning you have a special one of a kind center piece on your special day! Pricing for a bespoke wedding cake is therefore unique for each client. Please see the guide below for iced wedding cakes.

Prices do not include delivery

Additional Extras

Delivery and set up

Delivery is charged at 60p per mile round trip + £15ph. Additional £30 Congestion and Low Emission Zone charge for Central London delivery.

Tall Tiers

All wedding cakes are 4” tall as standard – if you would like an extra tall 6” tier add 30%

Favours

Iced biscuit favours are available from £3 per biscuit individually sealed in a cellophane bag. For other types of favours such as macarons, cupcakes or cake pops please enquire for a quote. 

Cake Stand Hire

Cake stands are available to hire from £10 + a security deposit (returned within 7 days of your wedding and after I receive the stand back). I don’t have any log cake stands but I can help you source one. I don’t hire cake knives.

Fresh Flowers

I recommend ordering extra flowers from your florist. It’s usually more cost effective and your cake will match your wedding florals. I’m happy to liaise with your florist to add the flowers to your cake. If you aren’t using a florist please request a quote for fresh flowers.

Cake Toppers

If you have your own cake topper you are welcome to post this to me or leave it at your venue so I can add it to your cake.

Kitchen Cakes / Cutting Cakes

A cutting cake is a cake that sits in the kitchen, simply iced ready to be cut and served with your main cake to boost the portions. Cutting cakes are available from £2 per portion.

I love to get to know my couples and the details of their wedding so that I can create their perfect cake. Your cake is the perfect place to showcase your personality as a couple both in design and flavour.

I have 10 years of experience making wedding cakes and have made every different style imaginable. I have set up wedding cakes at country estates, in woodland tipis, at the top of London Skyscrapers and even on a boat!

Your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life and I am confident that you can trust me with all aspects of your cake from the initial design through to execution and set up.

Got questions?

I take bookings for wedding cakes up to 18 months in advance. I would recommend at least 3-6 months in advance at the latest. Sometimes I can accommodate last minute requests but it all depends on my availability.

Yes, this is a great way to provide something for everyone depending on their tastes. It’s important to bear in mind that your bottom tier will provide the most portions so this should be the flavour you think will be the most popular.

I’m always happy to work with you to try and find ways to fit within your budget. If you let me know what your budget is from the start then I can design your cake to fit within that accordingly.

Yes of course you can, I often recommend my couples actually keep a tier for themselves to enjoy after the wedding as they don’t always get the chance to stop and enjoy it on the day. If you are planning to keep your top tier and freeze it for a future Christening or 1st Birthday I would recommend only doing this with a fruit cake and I will provide you with full freezing or storage instructions.

Of course, I love to do this because I get to be part of a family’s most special occasions from their wedding through to their 1st child’s Christening or 1st Birthday. I can only re-ice a fruit cake where I baked the original though. I’m afraid that if another baker or family member baked the original cake then I cannot decorate it for you. I will always inspect the condition of the cake first before icing it to ensure it has been stored correctly and is safe to eat.

Yes a dummy tier is a fake tier of cake that is iced to look like it is a real cake. It’s a great way of adding extra tiers and extra height to your cake without being stuck with leftover cake you don’t need. Perhaps your dream is a 5 tier cake but you only have 40 guests, a dummy tier is the perfect way to achieve this. Please note though that most of the cost with iced wedding cakes is in the decoration so while dummy tiers are cheaper than a real cake it’s not going to reduce the cost that significantly.

This is possible yes, however I wouldn’t recommend it. Some designs require assembly and final decorations applied on site at your venue so the best option is for me to set it up for you. If you do choose to collect I will provide you with care and set up instructions but I cannot take responsibility for the cake once it has left my premises.

I deliver wedding cakes across Hertfordshire, London, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Bedfordshire, Middlesex, Surrey & Oxfordshire. I can occasionally deliver further than this but as delivery is based on time and mileage this delivery cost could be significant for venues that are a long way outside my usual delivery zones.
