So many people aren’t a fan of traditional fondant icing or rich fruit cakes these days and that’s okay because a naked or semi-naked wedding cake is a great modern alternative. You want your guests to want to eat your wedding cake. Getting to actually see the cake and smell it rather than hiding it under icing means your guests will be salivating waiting to taste it.

What is the difference between a naked wedding cake and a semi-naked wedding cake?

The Ordering Process

Firstly let’s discuss all the details of your wedding so that I can confirm my availability. Next I would recommend ordering a tasting box so you can decide on flavours, we can then discuss the design details over email, a video chat or you can book a face to face consultation if you prefer. I will then send you a quote and if you’d like to proceed a £100.00 non-refundable deposit is due to secure your order.

Your balance is due 28 days before your wedding, this will be the final point to make any changes to your design, flavours and cake size. Your cake will be baked in the 48 hours before your wedding and cut and decorated the day before with set up and final fresh decorations added on site during setup.

All of my naked and semi-naked wedding cakes are approximately 4” tall and contain 3 layers of sponge and 2 layers of filling. Tall tiers are approximately 6” tall and contain 4 layers of sponge with 3 layers of filling. View my Portion Guide for more information.

I use Italian Meringue Buttercream as the filling in my cakes which is silky, smooth and not too sweet. It works beautifully paired with jams and conserves.

I will try to accommodate allergies & dietary requirements where possible. Wheat, gluten, dairy, soya and nut products are all used in my kitchen so I cannot guarantee against traces. Additional Extras

Delivery and set up

Delivery is charged at 60p per mile round trip + £15ph. Additional £30 Congestion and Low Emission Zone charge for Central London delivery.

Tall Tiers

All wedding cakes are 4” tall as standard – if you would like an extra tall 6” tier add 30%


Iced biscuit favours are available from £3 per biscuit individually sealed in a cellophane bag. For other types of favours such as macarons, cupcakes or cake pops please request a quote

Cake Stand Hire

Cake stands are available to hire from £10 + a security deposit (returned within 7 days of your wedding and after I receive the stand back). I don’t have any log cake stands but I can help you source one. I don’t hire cake knives.

Kitchen Cakes / Cutting Cakes

A cutting cake is a cake that sits in the kitchen ready to be cut and served with your main cake to boost the portions. Cutting cakes for naked and semi-naked wedding cakes are available from £1.50 per portion.

Gold Leaf

Edible Gold or silver leaf is a lovely way to add a bit of glitz to your semi-naked wedding cake. Accents of gold leaf are available from £15.00 or a full tier covered with gold leaf is available from £50.

Fresh Fruit

Decoration with seasonal fresh fruit is included in all quotes for Naked wedding cakes. If you would like to add fresh fruit decoration to your semi-naked wedding cake this is available from £15.

Fresh Flowers

I recommend ordering extra flowers from your florist. It’s usually more cost effective and your cake will match your wedding florals. I’m happy to liaise with your florist to add the flowers to your cake. If you aren’t using a florist please request a quote for fresh flowers.

Edible Flowers

Edible flowers look absolutely gorgeous on naked and semi-naked wedding cakes and are available from £30 – £50

Cake Toppers

If you have your own cake topper you are welcome to post this to me or leave it at your venue so I can add it to your cake. I can create custom card cut cake toppers from £5. I can also help you source acrylic or other toppers – please request a quote.

Hi, I’m Jessica and I cannot wait to create a beautiful naked cake for your wedding!

As much as I love working with fondant I completely understand those of you who hate it, let me make you a beautiful naked or buttercream cake instead! I have honestly lost count of how many naked wedding cakes I have made over the past 10 years.

My favourite thing about making this style of wedding cake is that they’re all different. It’s so much fun to set up a naked cake on a tree stump at a rustic woodland wedding or to create a semi-naked cake with little touches of gold that would suit an elegant country estate wedding.

There’s so many ways to create a cake that is customised to you in both flavour and design and I look forward to working with you to create your perfect naked wedding cake!

Got questions?

I can take wedding cake bookings up to 18 months in advance. With naked and semi-naked wedding cakes the turnaround is a little quicker than with iced wedding cakes so I can take bookings as little as 3 months in advance. Though I would always recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

I use sugar syrup in all my cakes which helps to keep them moist and allows a naked cake to stand on display for several hours without going dry. All naked and semi-naked cakes are baked in the 48 hours before the wedding which means they are as fresh as possible.

In most cases, no. All of my naked and semi-naked wedding cakes are fine to stand out on display for several hours. I will normally aim to deliver and set up your cake as close to your guests arriving as possible so that it does not need to be sat around for longer than necessary. In rare circumstances where there is a record breaking heatwave and your wedding is outdoors or in a marquee for example I might recommend that the cake is stored in the fridge until right before you want to cut it.

In all my years of making naked and semi-naked wedding cakes I have never had one melt or collapse. That said if you leave a cake in direct sunlight on a hot day it could melt. I will work with you and your venue to find the best place to display your cake to avoid the weather wreaking havoc.

A dummy tier is a popular option to add extra height with iced wedding cakes but I’m afraid it’s not possible to create fake tiers with naked and semi-naked wedding cakes.

Yes you can, but be aware that with a naked cake this may mean that each tier will look a different colour. Different colour tiers actually looks great, but if you want a uniform look then I would recommend sticking with one flavour throughout.
